Lindsey Davis is an acclaimed British historical novelist best known for her much-loved novels set in ancient Rome. Born and brought up in Birmingham, she studied English at Oxford before working in the civil service in London. She left in 1985 to pursue a career as a writer, initially publishing romantic serials before turning to historical fiction.
Her breakthrough came with The Silver Pigs (1989), the first novel featuring Marcus Didius Falco, a sharp-witted Roman investigator whose adventures take readers across the Roman world. The series grew into a richly imagined universe of mysteries, family dramas and unforgettable characters, including Falco’s daughter, Flavia Albia, who later became the heroine of her own series.
